From Shyness to Shine: My Journey With Tango Dresses

From Shyness to Shine: My Journey With Tango Dresses

When I was just starting my tango path, I found myself at a large tango event. There was a showroom there, and a designer had brought a stunning collection of tango dresses for a fashion show. Suddenly, one of the models didn’t arrive, and I was asked to step in.

At first, I agreed. But when I entered the dressing room, they brought me a dress that was breathtaking — dramatic, elegant, unforgettable. Yet it had an open back and a very high front slit. I froze. The dress felt too daring for me at that moment, and in the end, I refused to walk in the show.

Later, when I began designing tango dresses myself, I noticed something remarkable. Many women who came to me at the very beginning of their tango journey would choose something modest: dark colors, simple lines, closed silhouettes. Open backs or bold slits were out of the question.

But as they grew in tango, as they developed their dance and discovered themselves, something changed. They would return for new dresses — and this time, the dresses were brighter, bolder, more expressive. I could see their growth, not only as dancers but also as women embracing their identity, their confidence, their femininity.

Watching this transformation has always been one of the most beautiful parts of my work. A tango dress is not just clothing — it is a reflection of where you are in your journey. Sometimes modest, sometimes daring, always deeply personal. And in every step, it tells the story of who you are becoming.
