Dress or Top with Skirt: What to Choose for a Milonga?
Share
Every tanguera sooner or later faces the question: should I buy a dress or go for a top and skirt combination? Both options have their advantages and unique features.
✨ Top and Skirt
• Very practical: you can create multiple outfits by combining one top with different skirts, or one skirt with different tops.
• Easy to refresh your wardrobe without big expenses: just add one new piece, and you already have a new look.
• The downside: during dancing, skirts often twist, and tops may ride up. This is completely natural, since tango is about movement, not standing still. Sometimes after a tanda you need to adjust your skirt or top — and that’s perfectly normal.
✨ Dress
• A dress has fewer “technical” issues: it doesn’t expose the midriff, twists less, and stays in place more securely.
• The look of a dress is always complete and polished.
• The downside: fewer mix-and-match possibilities — but you can always enrich the look with accessories like a belt, jewelry, or even a flowing chiffon overskirt.
🎭 Your Choice
If you love to experiment and change your style often — choose tops and skirts. If you value comfort and a seamless silhouette — go with a dress. In any case, the choice is yours. What matters most is that you feel beautiful and free in your dance.
